Greetings, Wren!
I’m still in England, loving the idyllic little village of Thriplow, where they recently had a daffodil festival! The entire village and the lanes along the public bridleways and footpaths are all planted with daffodils. Some have flowered and only foliage is left, some are still blooming with sunny colors!
The tree blossoms are somewhat early: lilac, hawthorn and elder are all bloooming! A young boy who lives next door to Hannah proclaimed that the hawthorn blossoms “smell like wee,” and, of course, they do! But they’re beautiful. Hail, the Queen of the May!
There’s also small woodland areas planted with many forget me nots! From a distance they look like the fabled bluebell woods, all of which are in bloom here now…
It’s been somewhat chilly in Cambridgeshire this week and a bit cloudy but we’ve had plenty of sun. What a balm it has been to walk around and see everyone’s lovely gardens. (More pictures later!) I do hope to see bluebells in a forest setting tomorrow when Hannah and I take a trip to Oxfordshire. Fingers crossed!
What about you, dear friend? Any Beltane shenanigans planned? Or maybe a quiet time in nature? I will be going home on Sunday and plan to observe the holiday more earnestly on the cross quarter, May 5. Until I see you later this month, here’s hoping your garden is bursting forth in gorgeous color and sweet perfume…
