Hello, Wren! Yes, we have also had so much rain lately! But we had sun and a nice breeze today. Funny you mentioned the salvia (‘May Night’ I think?) in your last post; I just snapped these pics today on a job site. The salvia is dwarfed by close-ups of those delphiniums, but the overall look of the purples in this garden was quite stunning. (The second photo is blurry because those deep violet beauties were waving in the breeze!)
We had a number of noisy grackles flying around watching us at work today…Suzy exclaimed at how colorful they were, with their deep blue heads and reddish black bodies…beautiful birds!
I also noticed these large vinca today, a big bloom with huge dark green glossy leaves. I might have to find somewhere to plant these! I bet they’re less likely to strangle as a ground cover the way that smaller periwinkles do. The second photo is for scale, next to a hosta. Some of the leaves on these vines were five inches long!
I’m headed out to western New York this weekend for some camping. Looking forward to a bit of change in scenery, and tending some gardens that have been neglected over the last year. Also seeing how my campsite has fared with being away so long. I have a heron in my camp just like this one! Well, mine is a bit more faded. But he (she?) is my trusty garden guardian. Things need dividing, so plants are definitely coming home with me. It’s a pleasure to be involved with so many gardens, but it’s definitely a lot of work! Grateful I’ll miss that mini heat wave passing through eastern New York.
Stay cool my friend; may I suggest sipping some cold lemonade sitting at the nice periwinkle colored table in your garden?
Did you say purple?
Seriously, I do not know how you do it all! Have a wonderful weekend; don't work so hard as you don't have time to sit under the stars. Is it too late for fireflies?
