It’s here at last!
The weather got nice and warm earlier this week, and we’ve had a bit of rain, and the little spring bulbs are poking up their green bits…I haven’t seen any flowers yet but they’ll be here soon enough!
We also had a gorgeous full moon two days ago (the Worm Moon!) and I saw hundreds if not thousands of Canada geese flying overhead one evening this week…as my coven describes it, the Awakening is upon us! Every year doing the Provider Cycle we’d begin with the Rite of the Awakening, which contains this poem:
The Immortal
Spring has come up from the South again,
With soft mists in her hair,
And a warm wind in her mouth again,
And budding everywhere.
Spring has come up from the South again,
And her skies are azure fire,
And around her is the awakening
Of all the world's desire.
Spring has come up from the South again,
And dreams are in her eyes,
And music is in her mouth again,
Of love, the never-wise.
Spring has come up from the South again,
And bird and flower and bee
Know that she is their life and joy
And immortality!

It’s hard to ignore all the changes and beauty around us now. It’s a sensual carousel of sensations. The smell of the damp soil, the loud chirping of birds, the soft spring breezes, the taste of raindrops…it’s a welcome balm after winter’s cold and isolation.
I went looking for some signs of life in the neighborhood. The columbines are showing their frilly little leaves…
and there are some green buds forming on the trees…
and the sedums look like little cabbage rosettes…
and this dirty little beastie, one of many forget-me-nots in my garden, will soon be covered in beautiful blue flowers!
I want flowers!!! But I will be patient…
In the meantime, where did I put those seed catalogs?
