Good afternoon, Wren! It’s sunny and a very unseasonably warm day in upstate NY ~ currently 85 degrees at 5 pm! I had to go and water some properties for clients; needless to say, things are growing fast in this heat but they’re also drying out quickly. It seems we had similar conditions last year in May; very hot temperatures and lack of rain. Climate change is a grim reality. It makes me sad and angry to think we could have averted this, or lessened its impact, if we’d taken it seriously decades ago. Now we’re in for even worse conditions ahead. What weather magic might fix this disaster?
Still. One doesn’t stop gardening even when the weather presents challenges. Indeed, gardening is a fine way to calm a worried mind. I went to a new (to me) nursery the other day on the way to work and they had really nice perennials that were very reasonable. I had to get plants for a client but I also got one for me: this beautiful rosy pink columbine! I will plant tomorrow when it’s a bit cooler. I know this flower will make me happy. Pink, all shades of pink, is definitely my favorite color palette in the garden.
I had more irises open up over at my vegetable garden today: deep red ones and a lovely pale lavender with gold edges and beards; I’ll try to take photos when I go over to water later this evening.
How’s your garden today, my friend? Any more irises opening?
love,
Peg
