Hi there, Peg!
I thought that I’d best get out today and gasp at the lovely colors in the iris bed before they fall back to sleep. Their showy display is too short for my taste but, much as I beg them to stay, they soon will simply pack up their petals into tidy little bundles like the seasonal visitors that they are and head on out. At least they consented to pose for a few pictures..
Just faintly glowing in the left background, you can see a pale lemony gal who opened up this morning. Bit of a late bloomer but quite nice with the dark purple and port wine shades.
And in the background, there are some tall tiger lilies who will take over the glamour photoshoots next month.
As you mentioned the pink columbine…
She was hiding backstage all the while waiting to make her grand entrance. So I’d call her a Triple Goddess plant with a good sense of timing! (I’ll still be grateful for any columbine darlings you can spare. They seem to do very well under the chestnut tree.)
Well, Len and Barry just returned from their fishing trip so I guess I’ll go peek at what they caught. We have more haddock in the freezer for you, too. Just don’t forget to bring the brownies!
Love you,
Wren
I'm also thinking...if you like, we can try planting a big bed of just irises somewhere, so you can move some of them from your main perennial bed there, thereby freeing up space. Those rosy ones tend to spread quickly!
Speaking of fish, I am planning to enjoy some of Len's fish this week! And you can be sure he will get plenty of brownies in my next visit...let's plan for some day in June...
