Wren!
The mauve buds have turned out to be this GORGEOUS stunner with pale lavender falls, pale peachy pink standards, and bright orange beards.
Isn’t it amazing???
I’m not sure of the name of this one but it looks very similar to “Chasing Rainbows” or “Mother Earth.” Both beautiful names. Iris, of course, is the name of the Greek goddess of the rainbow…daughter of sea god Thaumus and the ocean nymph Electra, and sister to the harpies. She was a messenger to the gods, and also served them wine at banquets.
And it’s growing right next to this beauty, which is a bit more subtle, and has yellow tones and beard, and yellowish buds, not mauve, but also stunning and full of soft color:
Ah, what a glorious iris season we are having this spring!
Wowza! What a beauty indeed!! I love the luminous sheen of her petal gown; she reminds me of the inner chambers of a seashell. Perhaps if we place our ear close enough we may hear the sound of tides... not of the sea but of the earth.
